Quality Control of Valerianae Radix by Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR) Spectroscopy.

(Acetoxy-)valerenic acid and total essential oil content are important quality attributes of pharmacy grade valerian root (Valerianae radix). Traditional analysis of these quantities is time-consuming and necessitates (harmful) solvents. Here we investigated an application of attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for extractionless analysis of these quality attribu...

Rapid Quantification of Methamphetamine: Using Attenuated Total Reflectance Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and Chemometrics

In Australia and increasingly worldwide, methamphetamine is one of the most commonly seized drugs analysed by forensic chemists. The current well-established GC/MS methods used to identify and quantify methamphetamine are lengthy, expensive processes, but often rapid analysis is requested by undercover police leading to an interest in developing this new analytical technique. Ninety six illicit...

Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectra of faceted diamonds.

Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR FT-IR) spectroscopy has been employed for characterization of faceted diamonds. ATR spectra of round brilliant cut natural diamonds of approximately 0.1 ct were observed with excellent spectral quality. The mirror-flat spectrum of the table facet enables a good contact to the ATR crystal with a minimal applied pressure. The observed AT...

Single-pass attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for the prediction of protein secondary structure.

Principal component regression (PCR) was applied to a spectral library of proteins in H2O solution acquired by single-pass attenuated total reflectance (ATR) Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. PCR was used to predict the secondary structure content, principally alpha-helical and the beta-sheet content, of proteins within a spectral library. Quantitation of protein secondary struct...

Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for on-chip monitoring of solute concentrations.

We report a cost-efficient Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) method for monitoring concentrations of solutes in solutions flowing through microfluidic channels. The method allows rapid acquisition of spectra and enables chemical characterisation and concentration measurements that are independent of the flow rate of liquids. The method enables indepe...
